What are you feeding your skin? Or to get down to the nitty gritty, what are you feeding the organisms that are living on your skin? To refresh you on 10th grade Biology class, your skin is inhabited by large colonies of different types of bacteria, yeast and other little micro-organisms. As soon as one of these colonies gets out of whack, suddenly the balance of good versus bad is thrown off and you’re dealing with everything from acne to rosacea. So as these tiny organisms wage war on one another, how do you get it back in check? Let me introduce you to Aleavia Skincare.

Aleavia works by balancing your PH level and feeding the good bacteria, which in turn will take over populations of bad bacteria. Take this example from their site, for instance: “Acne exists in most cases due to large, active colonies of P. Agnes bacteria overpowering their friendly bacteria counterparts. Conversely, healthy skin has virtually no P. Agnes bacteria, but instead has large colonies of friendly competitive bacteria.” Amazingly, they’re able to do this using only natural ingredients. I love when natural brands are effective and can actually hold up to their claims- something that not all conventional brands even do. I was definitely curious about this brand and how they used Prebiotics in their formulations! They sent me a few products to try and I was hooked immediately.

I tried the Immerse Body Wash in both Lavender and regular. The simplicity of the ingredients is astounding: Water, Coconut Oil, Aloe, Sea Salt, Kelp, Citric Acid, Glycerin (Plant derived). That’s it. Simple but effective, my favorite kind of product! The body wash lathers well, especially if you use it with a body brush or puff. I found this to be very gentle on my skin. As I talked about on here before, I do have a bit of K.P. and I also do sometimes get eczema and a little hormonal acne on my back (Gosh, I sound like a troll!). This effectively cleansed my skin without aggravating any of my issues and I even saw some improvement! I really didn’t notice any of those conditions while I’ve been using this, except the K.P., which is always slightly there, but it has been barely noticeable lately.

The other products I have been using are part of the Prebiotic Skin Restoration Set. The set includes a face wash and the Restore skin restoration spray. I’ve been really digging these two products. The face wash is awesome. It does a great job of removing my makeup and cleansing my face without stripping my face. It doesn’t really have a scent and lathers well. The spray is amazing! Seriously, I started spraying on everything and anything- any little bump or itchy spots were instantly neutralized with it! It works great as a pre-miosturizer on my face and helps make my face feel even more moisturized than just my night cream alone. This kit is specifically formulated to help with everything from wrinkles to scars, to even rosacea and psoriasis. Sounds crazy that a wash and a spray can do that, right? Well they have some crazy before and after photos on their site! I truly believe that the best products are ones that let the body heal itself, and these products set the stage for that by creating a ph-balanced environment and keeping the bad bacteria in check.
