Thanks to my fickle skin, there’s not much that can persuade me to overhaul my whole routine and try an entire skincare line at once, but a few months ago my friends over at The Detox Market managed to convince me to. They told me about a unique Italian line they just picked up and after learning a little more about it, I was very intrigued. They sent me all of the Radiće Apothecary products they carry (except the Orange Blossom water, which hadn’t come in yet) and I’ve been busy putting them to the test.
First, a little bit about Radiće Apothecary. 3 generations ago the founder’s grandmother used her pharmacist background to create products using organic ingredients from her own garden. From there, Jasmine Urzia has continued her grandmother’s work and after studying natural pharmaceuticals and working as an herbalist, she now makes all of the products by hand. Many of the ingredients are sourced from the same garden as her grandmother! Their processes use century-old Italian herbalist tradition and ingredient knowledge to create an elegant line that really works.
Radiće Apothecary
Black Cumin Cleansing Milk $55
This is a cream cleanser and (full disclosure) I don’t normally care for cream cleansers. I feel like they leave a heavy residue behind. I actually really like how easily this washes away my makeup and build up though, so I decided to use it as part of a double cleanse, which is a great method of washing if you wear makeup daily. Usually, I will wash with the Cleansing Milk first, then follow with another face wash (like this one) and I find it fully removes any traces of makeup without stripping my skin. It’s very gentle and has a very light pleasant scent.
I was surprised by just how much I like this mask. It’s very refreshing and moisturizing, but surprisingly light. I’ve found it’s great for hydrating my skin during hotter weather when my skin is quick to get oily on the surface but can still sometimes feel a bit dehydrated. I tend to gravitate toward products that help my skin hold moisture in, rather than add more oil this time of year. The aloe vera in this mask works well to help pull in more moisture without the oiliness. I think this will be a favorite all summer long.
Honey and St. John’s Wort Mask $90
This moisture mask is a double hitter. It employs hydrating ingredients like aloe to draw in water, as well as deeply moisturizing ingredients like hemp seed oil, avocado oil and more. It leaves skin feeling extremely soft and moisturized. I think this is a great pick for someone with dry or mature skin. It has a slightly perfumey scent, but like the other products, the scent is extremely light and non-intrusive.
The name may say cream, but this feels more like a cross between a light lotion and a serum. It’s a very unique consistency that goes on extremely light but leaves my skin feeling very moisturized. The scent lightly recalls blackcurrants without being overwhelming. It works well paired with a serum underneath or topped with a balm or cream if you need more moisture, however, my combo skin feels great with using it alone.
This has the same consistency as the other face cream and still manages to moisturize well. The formula includes ingredients that encourage skin to heal itself, along with moisturizing and balancing ingredients. Myrrh has a very unmistakable scent and I like it depending on what else it’s mixed with. In this formula, the scent is pretty pure and very light, so it doesn’t bother me. But if you’re not a myrrh fan, this one may not be for you.
Rose of Castille Eye Contour Cream $80
What looks like a heavy cream formula, actually goes on incredibly light. This is another product that is surprisingly moisturizing despite the light texture. I like the light, floral scent and I feel like it strikes the perfect balance for an eye cream to wear at night. While it doesn’t leave my skin greasy or oily, it’s moisturizing enough that I don’t feel that makeup would sit well on top of it.
