Sharing my Organic Skincare Routine for day and night!

From different types of cleansers to which serum to use, it can feel intimidating to put together a skincare routine. I’ve got you covered though! Today I’m sharing my own organic skincare routine (both day and night) and answering some of the most common questions I get about routines. For even more info, be sure to check out my podcast episode with Allyson Owens, which is all about skincare and routines!

My Organic Skincare Routine:

Sharing my Organic Skincare Routine for day and night!

Daytime Routine

I always start off with gua sha. It’s great in the morning to wake up my skin and get rid of any puffiness. I usually use an oil cleanser with the gua sha, but sometimes will swap in a face oil like Live Botanical Clearing Face Oil. Then I cleanse and apply my products.

Cleanser: We Love Eyes Foaming Cleanser or Leahlani Kalima

Mist/Toner: Laurel Hydrating Elixir (the one I’m using was a limited edition but all of the elixirs are wonderful)

Serum: Day Squad Vitamin C Face Oil. This is an oil-based serum so some may not need an additional moisturizer. Use code MAISONPUR20 to save

Moisturizer: Fitglow Vita Rich Creme This is pricey so when I run out I may switch to Graydon Super Sensitive Skin Stuff, which my skin has also done well with.

Eye Cream: 100 Percent Pure Caffeine Eye Cream

SPF: Suntegrity Impeccable Skin SPF

Night Time Routine

Makeup Remover: We Love Eyes eye makeup remover

Cleanse: We Love Eyes Foaming Cleanser (it says eyelash cleanser but you can use for your whole face. This has been great for my perioral dermatitis!)

Toner: Live Botanical Hydrating Elixir

Serum:  Agent Nateur Vitamin C Powder (discount code AGENTMOLLY) mixed with Live Botanical Hydrating Serum. As much as I love this combo, I may switch back to Marie Veronique’s Gentle Retinol Night Serum at night and use this combo during the day instead. My skin’s been missing it since I stopped using it a few months ago!

Moisturizer: The same as in the morning- Fitglow Vita Rich Creme.

Eye Cream: Agent Nateur’s eye serum -It’s so moisturizing! Use code AGENTMOLLY to save.

I also mask a couple of times a week and you can see a lineup of my favorites here.

F.A.Q.’s I get about skincare:

The most asked question is: What order do I apply skincare products?

The general rule of thumb is to apply lightest to heaviest. So the water-based, quick-to absorb products go on first, followed by the heavier oils/moisturizers. Most routines will look something like this: cleanse, toner/mist, serum, moisturizer. If your eye product is heavier and more moisturizing, I would apply it last or next to last. If it’s more of an eye serum, apply it before the heavier moisturizers.

Do I need a serum?

Is it essential? No. But I think you’re missing out without one. Not only does it give you an extra chance to give your skin some targeted ingredients for whatever it may need, most serums also provide some hydration which you won’t get from oils or most face balms.

Will a face oil break me out?

No. Face oils are lovely and can help your skin with a variety of issues, even breakouts. Like any moisturizer, you may meet an oil that doesn’t play well with your skin and causes issues, but generally speaking, most people do fine with most face oils. The exception is coconut oil that does tend to break out certain skin types. My skin doesn’t have an issue with it, but I know plenty of others that do.

Is retinol bad?

In my opinion, no. It has years of research behind it and is one of the most proven anti-aging ingredients. That being said, most formulas (prescription and over-the-counter) have other ingredients added in that aren’t great. My top pick for a natural version is Marie Veronique’s Gentle Retinol Night Serum. Always be sure to wear sunscreen while using retinol as it can make your skin more susceptible to UV damage and it’s not recommended to use it while you’re pregnant.
