Finding a natural face moisturizer that doesn’t send my sensitive skin into a frenzy has been challenging. It took forever to find a good moisturizer in the conventional skin care world so I knew this would be one the items I would really have to hunt for on my green journey. I blogged about some good options here and honestly, I had intended to try Tata Harper’s Rebuilding Moisturizer (I just have a feeling I will love it), but alas, I procrastinated on buying anything and then completely panicked when I ran out of my old moisturizer. Thank God for Whole Foods being 2 miles from my house! So, by default, I went with Acure Organics Oil Control facial moisturizer and since then I’ve also been using BeautyCounter’s Everyday AM Hydrating Creme. Here’s my take on both:

ACURE ORGANICS OIL CONTROL FACIAL MOISTURIZER

ACURE ORGANICS

This moisturizer is formulated for combination skin, like mine. When you first apply it, it feels very emollient and moisturizing so I was worried it would be too heavy and break my skin out. However, it quickly dries down to a light, matte finish. It has not made me break out at all and still manages to keep my drier areas hydrated. The smell is very herbal. Probably not the most helpful description! Let’s just say I’m neutral on the scent- I don’t hate it but I don’t love it.

I’m always pleasantly surprised by Acure Organics. As someone who gravitates towards fancy packaging and pretty smells, they are not always on my radar. But this is just another example of how their simple, not fancied up products, work well. You also have to love that they are so accessible and fairly priced. If you’re not looking for a splurge, this is a great product!

Where to Buy: Acureorganics.com or most natural retailers

Cost: $18.99

BEAUTYCOUNTER EVERY DAY AM HYDRATING CREAM

Have you tried anything from BeautyCounter yet? I finally tried a few of their products and they are a great transition into natural beauty if you’ve frequented department store beauty counters in the past. This moisturizer is lightweight yet effective. It has a super light, but pleasant smell. It’s gentle and I’ve had no problems with breakouts either.

For you purist out there, it contains Phenoxyethanol, which is a common preservative that has a couple of health concerns but is not considered high risk. In all fairness, it’s the second to last ingredient. If you’re ok with it than this is worth a try. I’m more ok with this ingredient when it’s in hand soaps and other cleansers as it gets washed off, but in a lotion you can count on it getting fully absorbed by your skin. I’m still giving this a shot, however!

Cost: $40.00

Not to fear, I plan on testing out both Tata Harper’s Rebuilding Moisturizer and Dr. Hauschka’s Melissa Day Cream as well. Look for those reviews soon!
